Caravan Logistics
If you're thinking of coming with us on Caravan Day, you'll be meeting us at a designated location in San Ysidro, CA, on the U.S. side of the border. We meet there at 10AM on the first Saturday after Christmas to stage the Caravan, reload the toys, identify drivers, vechicles, get insurance, have a short orientation, etc. You can probably imagine the task of keeping 20 to 30 vehicles together through the streets of downtown Tijuana. We attach streamers to antennas and use walkie-talkies and such, but it's always a challenge.
We leave the U.S. location as close to 11AM as possible and arrive at the first dining room around noon. The toys and stockings and sweets are delivered there and we spend time with the chldren before going to our second location and do it all over again. We then have lunch together at our dining room in Colonia Lagunitas with Rosenda before heading home. Generally, we distribute to our third dining at the ejido at a separate time due to time constraints.
With an average 45 minute wait to cross the border back into the U.S., we're typically across by 5PM or 6PM for the trip home. It's a long and really beautiful day. Come join us. |
