One Metric Ton
One metric ton of food is about 2,200 pounds, One metric ton of food will also keep our dining rooms open for one month. One metric ton sounds like a lot, but if you think about it, since we're looking for staples like rice, beans, flour, cooking oil, etc., it doesn't take much to quickly get up to a ton. Picture 3 or 4 minivans with the seats out and filled up. That's about right.

And in more personal terms, if you have a church or other organization, it only takes 22 families or individuals bringing 100 pounds of food to reach the goal. Think of your family buying one of your children's weight in food from the list below. It doesn't take much to keep 500 kids fed each day.

Take a look at the list below for the dry breakfast items we're looking for. They are all items that will store a long time without refrigeration, and in the hands of the skilled women in the colonias, will cook up a great breakfast.
