Committed Volunteers
Our founder, Paul Weiss said that when he started this work, he thought that his job was to fill the bellies of the poor. He soon realized that it was really to warm the hearts of the rich. We make it our job to bring as many volunteers with us to care for and meet the children and see the conditions facing them. Bringing our worlds together is key to opening eyes and hearts and creating new "life partners" for the children.
Over three decades, over 100,000 volunteers have created hope by providing help to tens of thousands of poor children. Twenty thousand people have worked with us in Mexico alone, and since the beginning, the ministry has been marked by, interfaith cooperation, concern for children everywhere, and a positive view of the future.
During this time, with the help of our volunteers, we have managed to raise well over $10 million for kids; maintain a Children of the Americas office in Washington, DC from 1994 to 2000 in order to build new international networks and expand the work by embracing inner-city kids in the DC area who also live in third world conditions; and in 2000, move our headquarters to Orange County, CA, giving us more presence near the U.S.-Mexican border to better manage operations in Mexico and to begin new programs in the U.S.
