Food for Kids
Every morning, up to one thousand children get a nutritious breakfast in our 5 nutrition centers in Tijuana, Mexico. Before heading for school, the children fill empty bellies at comedores in four of the border city’s colonias: Panamericana, Genaro Vasquez, La Gloria, and Tecolote–as well as in the more remote Ejido Lazaro Cardenas. The five centers are sources of real hope – and support – in the lives of children struggling to find their place in the sun. The 7 a.m. meal is prepared by 30-plus mother-volunteers in the colonias, and may include milk and fruit. Or hot cereal with raisins. Or pancakes. Or tortillas and cheese. Or beans and eggs. Too often, it’s the one full meal the kids get each day.
After a meal and discipleship, we lead the children to pray for all who help feed them and then head for school, ready to learn. Can you help? We always need breakfast food for our kids in Tijuana. Will you organize your faith community to collect and deliver 1 ton of food a year to Tijuana? Are you ready to take action, to match that voice inside of you to the great need of children near you? Together we can work on a cure for hunger.
Will you be an advocate for the hungry?
Will you deliver that cure to hungry children in your city? You can make a difference by doing something simple like sponsoring a Supermarket Saturday food collection in front of a supermarket and donate that to a food pantry near you or in your church.
